Tip #2: Go midweek, when flights and hotels are cheaper. You’ll pay a premium for weekend travel.
Tip #3: Book a package that combines air and hotel. You’ll pay just one price upfront, in US dollars, and protect yourself against fluctuating exchange rates.
Tip #4: Pick up-and-coming countries in Eastern Europe where your dollar will go further.
Tip #5: Visit countries that aren’t on the euro, like Switzerland, Norway, and Hungary. The exchange rate is much more favorable.

New Departure Regulations

Posted in Information by Editor on March 7th, 2008

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced a new rule that requires cruise ships departing from US ports to provide the full passenger manifest to government officials 60 minutes before departure. This means that all guests must be checked in and onboard at least an hour before the ship sets sail. Previously, though it was never recommended to cut things so close, passengers could check in and board a ship minutes before departure.
To comply with the new rule, cruise lines have established rules of their own, requiring passengers to submit certain personal information several days prior to departure, and/or embark no later than 90 minutes prior to the ship’s scheduled departure time. Guests who do not meet these new requirements may be denied boarding by the cruise line.
Policies vary from line to line, so when you book a cruise, your Vacations To Go cruise counselor will inform you of the boarding requirements for the cruise line you’ve chosen so that you may plan your arrival accordingly (whether you are flying or driving to the port). We strongly recommend that our customers complete online check-in forms, for those lines that offer them, well in advance, and arrive at the pier at least two hours before the scheduled departure of your cruise.

Vacations To Go Cruise Newsletter

Posted in European Cruise Experience by Editor on March 7th, 2008

Oceania Cruises has just announced new Europe cruise itineraries for 2009. When they last announced new itineraries back in August, the cruise line was slammed with new reservations and all suite categories were sold out within 72 hours. That’s why I wanted to make sure that all Vacations To Go customers were advised of the new availabilities on this early booking cruise line–they are sure to go fast.
In fact, while most of our customers book their cruises 60 to 90 days in advance to secure the best rates, Oceania enthusiasts book an average of 9 months in advance to ensure their space onboard the line’s three intimate, 5-star ships. To guarantee your spot on one of Oceania’s future cruises, I’d recommend booking as early as possible.
Oceania’s 2009 Europe voyages include itineraries in the Baltic and Scandinavia, the Greek Isles and Eastern Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Western Mediterranean, ranging in length from 10 to 18 days. For a complete list of upcoming cruises with Oceania, click here.

Where to Stretch your Dollar in Europe

Posted in European Tour Experience by Editor on March 5th, 2008

The weak state of the US dollar against the euro has become a major deterrent to traveling abroad. But there are ways to stretch your dollar in Europe this year – you just have to know where to go. Several countries have yet to enter the EU or adopt its currency, and you might be surprised at just how affordable they are, even after the exchange rate. So, while Paris, Rome, and Madrid command top-dollar this year, you’ll save by visiting Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, and more.  Full Deal Review
